Flores de Mayo

When I was very young, I used to go to Church at 3 pm to participate Flores de Mayo in the whole month of May together with the other kids in the village. We brought different kinds of flowers to offer to the Blessed Mary either before or after we say the Holy Rosary. When we finished saying the rosary we had snacks or cookies for ourselves before we play hide and seek, hopscotch, etc.

I remember that mother always picked these two flowers for me before I hurried off to the chapel for the Flores de Mayo activity. I don’t know why it had to be these flowers when we had different flowering plants and orchids. However, they became my favourite for the Flores de Mayo eventually. For me, their scent is simple especially the white one; the pink flower has no odor at all.

Now that I’m older, these plants still blossoms in our yard and remind me of my happy Flores de Mayo.
